Lake Erie Golf Cars is now offering a certificate of inspection service at our Canfield, Ohio location.
Bring your golf cart into our location on specific TBD future dates and a licensed professional will inspect your golf cart and certify it. This certificate will be valid state-wide. What are some of the requirements you need to have as street legal golf cart?
Street Legal Golf Carts in Ohio
In order to have your golf cart considered to be inspected for certification, it must meet a few criteria. The golf cart must have some standard safety features like headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, windshield, horn, and a rear view mirror. A couple other necessities include license plate lights and the golf cart must not be capable of going over 20 MPH. On top of that, every occupant must have a seat belt and children must utilize child restraint seats required by Ohio Revised Code. Lastly, proof of insurance and your vehicle’s VIN must be supplied for inspection.
On the Road Again
Just because you get certified, it doesn’t mean you are ready to tackle the open road wherever you may please. After your certification and going to get your title and registration form the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, you will be restricted to roads that are not divided highways or with speed limits greater than 35 MPH.
If you want the full listing of Ohio Revised Code then you can review the the sections 4503.10 and 4501:2-1. Inspections do not apply for ATV’s or UTV’s. It only applies to golf carts and USVs (Under Speed Vehicles less than 20 MPH).
If we have a golf cart in stock that you would like to purchase and need it street legal, we can have it certified for you after you purchase the vehicle. By the time it gets to your house, you will only need a “quick” stop at the BMV.
